Body Trust Book club

Curious about body liberation? This is the book club for you.

Please join us in our upcoming virtual book club, where we'll be diving deep into the transformative pages of "Reclaiming Body Trust." This groundbreaking book is about reclaiming your autonomy, embracing self-compassion, and fostering genuine trust within yourself.

Informed by the personal body stories of the hundreds of people they have worked with, Reclaiming Body Trust delineates an intersectional, social justice−oriented path to healing in three phases: The Rupture, The Reckoning, and The Reclamation. Throughout, you'll be anchored by the authors’ innovative and revolutionary Body Trust framework to discover a pathway out of a rigid, mechanistic way of thinking about the body and into a more authentic, sustainable way to occupy and nurture our bodies.

Who is this book club for?

You might be thinking -- I'm not sure this book is for me. I haven't had a disordered relationship with food.

Let me ask you: Have you ever felt uncomfortable or not “at home” in your body?

Most people answer, "Yes." That's no accident. The system is set up for you to feel this way.

Healing from the trauma of diet culture, body commodification, and internalized weight stigma requires a reclamation of our body as our home. We can take back what been stolen from us: the birthright to a body lived in with presence and pleasure. This book shows us how to remove the hooks that have kept us stuck and ashamed.

This book is for...

  • The parent who wants to break the cycle of diet culture and body shame in their family with their own children
  • All those who want to be an ally to their larger bodied friends and family
  • All those who are ready to deconstruct their personal fatphobia and anti-fat bias
  • Those who want to reclaim their body after experiencing harm by oppression, trauma, stigma, gender norms, shame, difference, and othering.
  • Those who have distanced themselves from their body by trying to control food, feelings, and/or body as a survival skill in a body-oppressive world.

(And if you're worried that you won't have the time to read the book each week -- come anyway. We practice C-level work in this space. Let go of your perfectionism--it's a tool of oppression. Just show up.)

We understand the pain of looking in the mirror and feeling a sense of betrayal from the body that's supposed to be your ally. We get the ache of spending years numbing the discomfort through diets, disordered eating, over-exercising, counting and tracking all the things, or trying to disappear altogether.

We founded the Center for Embodiment because we want to help you move beyond being just “behavior free” and truly break free from the shackles of body shame, rewrite the narrative of your own worthiness, and come home to your body.
